December Stated Meeting Dinner
and Election of Officers

We enjoyed a fine roast beef dinner, thanks to the efforts of the members of Star of the Redwoods Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Our election of officers was held that night at at our December meeting owing to the power outage at our November stated meeting.

We held our election of officers, addressed some other business before the Lodge and retired for the evening.

Power Outage Impacts November Meeting

Our meeting for the month of November was interrupted by a power outage which took place right after our Stated meeting dinner. Luckily, most members had smart phones with a flashlight app. Our Worshipful Master decided to postpone the meeting until the following week. If you were unable to attend our original scheduled meeting on November 11th, you are welcome to join us on November 17th. At this meeting, the agenda for the meeting will be limited to paying the bills that are pending before the Lodge. Please note, our election of officers will take place at our December Stated Meeting and not at our November 17th meeting.

Hiram Award Presentation

At our August meeting, the brethren of of Marin Lodge voted to confer the Hiram Award upon Worshipful Master Anthony Tufo. He has worked long and hard for the betterment of the Lodge, through a pandemic no less. It is the highest honor in Freemasonry in California. It is given to him in honor of his service to our Lodge as Worshipful Master for the last three years. Worshipful Tony has put in countless hours for the Lodge, whether in administrative efforts, presiding over meetings, cooking for Lodge events, attending hall association meetings and the like. We wish to honor him for his efforts and his commitment to the Lodge and to the craft.

Marin Lodge Mourns Passing of Two Brethren

In October 2021, we lost two of our beloved brethren, Brother Arney PM and Brother Roller, our Tiler. Both passed away with days of each other. Brother Arney made many contributions to our Lodge, not the least of which was as a ritualist. He also served on our hall association as its secretary and in 2021 as its president. One of his pet projects was designing a Lodge recreation room for the brethren to enjoy. He had a great deal of Masonic experience and common sense. He would also voice the occasional, but pronounced "NO" upon something being voted upon in the Lodge, which usually brought smiles to all of the brethren present. Brother Roller served as our Tiler for many years. For three years, he served as our secretary, he did his job nobly, his only thought being the welfare of the Lodge. He served at times with great sacrifice, some years being more challenging than others. For many years, he was the librarian of the Lodge. Eventually, he returned to his earlier role as our Tiler. He was one of our longest serving candidate coaches. Both will be missed.

"Soft and safe to thee my brethren"

153rd Annual Roll Call Dinner

Past Masters' Dinner

On August 31st, Marin Lodge honored its Past Masters with a dinner. Thanks to the efforts of our Worshipful Master with several members of his family with our Junior Warden, Brother David Hammond, our Past Masters had a dinner of Alaskan Crab and steak. Our Past Masters and several Past Masters of other Lodges were very pleased to say the least. Afterwards Worshipful Master led a discussion about current trends in our Lodges. In closing, a toast was made to the late Worshipful Brother Raymond Piombo, Past Master of Ross Valley Lodge.

.

We would like to thank the ladies from Eastern Star for serving the meal and cleaning up afterwards.

Our Repaste for the Evening

Loss of Bother Robert DeYoung Sr.

Early in the year, Marin Lodge lost one of its loyal members, Brother Robert DeYoung. Brother DeYoung served for many years as our Marshal, he gave a key lecture to virtually every member of the Lodge for a number of years. He was also an enthusiastic member of Santa Rosa Scottish Rite. He would gladly drive up to Santa Rosa for their monthly meetings and was happy to give a ride to other Scottish Rite members. He had a warm, friendly smile and he would gladly call you brother. He was very proud that his son, Bob DeYoung Jr. who would go on to serve Marin Lodge as it's Master. After retiring, he and his wife Patty moved to the Masonic Homes in Hayward, where they enjoyed their lives together.

"Soft and safe to thee my brother."

Thanks to the effort of our Lodge officers and the directors of our building association, we were able to hold live, in person meetings since May. Prior to May our monthly meetings were held via Zoom. As with all our meetings during the last nine months of 2019, the bills of the Lodge were paid and only any pressing business was addressed by the Lodge.
